Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) announced today that it has partnered with Mattel, the world's leading toy manufacturer. SABIC will supply Mattel with renewable polymers in TRUCIRCLE recycling solutions. The first Mattel MEGA and Matchbox branded toy products to hit the market in 2022 will be produced from certified renewable polypropylene (PP), with other brands to follow.
It is reported that Mattel is the first toy manufacturer that cooperates with SABIC and adopts the mass balance method to produce high-quality new plastic products using the second generation of renewable raw materials. This partnership is fully aligned with Mattel's goal of using 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials in its products and packaging by 2030, and is an important step in both companies' journey towards a circular economy .
It is reported that the first product of SABIC's cooperation with Mattel is "MEGA BLOKS Green Town", which is also the first toy series to obtain carbon neutral certification in mass retail. The use of sustainable materials in the Matchbox brand, which allows the brand to achieve 100% recycling of its die-cast cars, play sets and packaging, is in line with Mattel's corporate goals.
Lada Kurelec, general manager of SABIC's polypropylene & E4P business, said: "This partnership with Mattel is an important step in our efforts to help customers across industries reduce their carbon footprint with high-quality materials. Mattel is a pioneer in the toy industry in this area. .Our materials are based on renewable feedstocks and enable a smooth transition from fossil feedstocks to bio-based feedstocks with guaranteed purity and quality. We are delighted to be working closely with Mattel through the diverse availability of TRUCIRCLE programs. Continue the product portfolio to create more value.”
