Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) has two isomers: 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 2,6-toluene diisocyanate.
English abbreviation: TDI; 2,4-toluene diisocyanate; 2,4-toluene diisocyanate; toluene-2,4-diisocyanate; 2,4-diisocyanate-1-methylbenzene ; Toluene diisocyanate; toluene diisocyanate; tolyl 2,4-diisocyanate; 2,4-diisocyanate; 2,4-diisocyanate toluene
Molecular formula: C9H6N2O2; CH3C6H3 (NCO)2.
Industrial applications
TDI (toluene diisocyanate) is one of the commonly used polyisocyanates, and polyisocyanates are polyurethane (PU) materials and important basic raw materials. The commonly used TDI in the polyurethane industry is a mixture of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI isomers, including 3 commonly used grades: TDI-80/20, TDI-100 and TDI-65/35. The previous number indicates the content of 2,4-TDI in the composition. For example, 80 in TDI-80/20 means that its composition is 80% of 2,4-TDI and 20% of 2,6-TDI; 100 in TDI-100 means that it is basically 2,4-TDI (about 98 %), there are few isomers of 2,6-TDI. Mainly used in the production of flexible polyurethane foam and polyurethane elastomer, coatings, adhesives, etc.
